La edición número 95 de los premios Oscar 2023, se realizó el domingo 12 de marzo de 2023 en el Dolby Theater de Los Angeles, California, Estados Unidos. El maestro de ceremonias fue el conductor Jimmy Kimmel. En su discurso inicial, obviamente habló acerca de incidente del año pasado, protagonizado por Chris Rock y Will Smith.
Curiosamente, con la inclusión de Avatar y Top Gun, dos secuelas compitieron como Mejor Película. Cada una de ellas ha rebasado la marca de recaudación de los mil millones de dólares en taquilla.
Everything Everywhere All at Once fue la película más nominada, con 11 menciones. Le siguieron, con 9 cada una, All Quiet on the Western Front y The Banshees of Inisherin. Elvis compitió en 8 categorias, The Fabelmans en 7, Tár y Top Gun: Maverick, en 6, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, en 5 y Avatar: Way of Water, en 4.
La triunfadora de la noche fue Everything Everywhere All at Once, que ganó en 7 categorías (incluyendo Mejor Película, Mejor Director(es) y Mejor Actriz para Michelle Yeoh); All Quiet on the Western Front, lo obtuvo en 4.
Angela Bassett fue la primera actriz en competir por una película de Marvel en una categoría histriónica; en este caso, como Actriz de Reparto. La ganadora fue Jamie Lee Curtis.
El compositor John Williams fue la persona más longeva en la contienda por el Oscar, con 90 años de edad, además de acumular 53 nominaciones en su carrera, siendo el segundo con más menciones en la historia, solo detrás de Walt Disney, con 59.
El primer premio de la noche fue para Guillermo del Toro por su reinterpretación del clásico, Pinocchio, como Mejor Película Animada.
Otro mexicano, Alfonso Cuarón, con el corto Le pupille, se convirtió en la segunda persona en tener 7 nominaciones en distintas categorías, después del británico Kenneth Brannagh.
Tres premios honorarios de la Academia de Cine y Artes fueron entregados a Euzhan Palcy, Diane Warren y Peter Weir.
El premio Humanitario Jean Hersholt fue entregado al actor Michael J. Fox.
El segmento In Memoriam fue presentado por un conmovido John Travolta, quien hizo una emotiva referencia a la película Grease, y su coestrella, Olivia Newton-John. La música corrió a cargo de Lenny Kravitz. Otros recordados, fueron Louise Feltcher, Robbie Coltrane, Kirstie Alley, Ray Liotta, Angelo Badalamenti, Irene Cara, Nichelle Nichols, Jean-Luc Goddard, Burt Bacharach, Angela Lansbury, Vangelis, James Caan y Raquel Welch, entre muchos otros.
