La Academia Británica de las Artes Cinematográficas y de la Televisión (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) ha reconocido a este medio de expresión por 78 años. En esta ocasión, y por segunda vez consecutiva, el anfitrión fue el actor David Tennant.
La ceremonia se realizó este domingo 16 de febrero en el Royal Festival Hall de Londres y, entre los reconocimientos especiales, se entregó el BAFTA Fellowship (Hermandad BAFTA); en esta ocasión, a la trayectoria del actor británico, Warwick Davis, conocido por sus roles en Star Wars, Harry Potter y Willow, entre otros.
En cuanto a la Contribución Sobresaliente al Cine Británico (Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema), la organización inglesa, MediCinema, fue la recipiente.
La película con mayor cantidad de nominaciones en esta ocasión fue Conclave, con 12; le siguieron con 11, Emilia Pérez. The Brutalist contó con 9 menciones, mientras que Anora, Dune: Part Two y Wicked, ostentaron 7 cada una. Empatadas con 6, se encontraron A Complete Unknown y Kneecap. Nosferatu y The Substance, obtuvieron 5 nominaciones.
En cuanto a los ganadores, The Brutalist y Conclave, obtuvieron 4 premios cada una.
Anora, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, A Real Pain, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl y Wicked, ganaron 2 BAFTAs cada una.
La sección In Memoriam, fue dedicada en esta ocasión, entre otros, a Donald Sutherland, James Earl Jones, Joan Plowright, Gena Rowlands, Kris Kristofferson, Shelley Duvall, Maggie Smith, Roger Corman, Teri Garr y David Lynch. Para honrarlos, el actor Jeff Goldblum interpretó en piano una sobresaliente versión de “As Time Goes By” (del filme Casablanca).
